44cents to brighten Bella’s day July 19, 2010

Bella TuckerThe value of a postage stamp? 44 cents. The value of making a little girl’s day by sending a “keep up the great work!” or “sending you smiles from far away!” note, card, or postcard? PRICELESS!

Today’s post is a bit different from the normal deals I share. Today I’m asking for everyone to pull together (being resourceful with my network!) to cheer on this brave little girl Bella Tucker. On Easter Sunday 2010 she came down with a near-fatal infection and had to have a quadruple amputation. 8-year-old Bella, who previously enjoyed gymnastics and playing with friends (including my colleague’s daughter), no longer has hands or feet, or most of her arms or legs. But she’s a trooper, and so is her family! Bella is making great strides despite a recent pneumonia set-back. She could use all the cheer & support we can offer.

Please take a couple of minutes (and one stamp) out of your day (or your child’s day) to drop a greeting to:

Bella Tucker, c/o Sonya Fonseca, 5 Tokanel Drive, Londonderry, NH 03053

Many thanks to Sonya who has offered to hand-deliver all of the cards, notes, and postcards to Bella for us!

Thanks in advance for participating and passing this request along. Let’s bring Bella some cheer! Ok, time to get my kids started on this project too.

Expires: Never — this kiddo is going to need our support for a long, long time.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition! May 21, 2010

Ok, folks. Normally I post sweet deals to save you dough and spread the word about great products and places. Today’s post takes a different twist on resourcefulness — and it will make you feel good for FREE.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could work together to help a family get an Extreme Makeover of their Home — for FREE?!?! Now, THAT would be resourceful!

I know some of you know about Bella Tucker, but for those of you who do not, she is an 8-year-old that goes to my friend’s daughter’s school. She went into a coma over Easter due to a serious bacterial infection and was not expected to survive. Miraculously she did survive but with extensive tissue damage and had to have both arms and legs amputated. The community of Londonderry, NH has been rallying to help her family and the latest effort is to get the show Extreme Makeover Home Edition to help out with modifying Bella’s home. Her family does not have the funds to do this on their own, and while the community is trying to raise money, it simply will not cover the costs.  (For example, a wheelchair lift alone is $30,000.)  And there are 4 other kids in the household, so you can only imagine how overwhelmed the family must be!

I am asking everyone a favor… Please go to the Extreme Makeover facebook page and leave a comment (you’ll have to “like” them in order to leave a comment, but then you can “unlike” the page) to nominate Bella Tucker’s family for an Extreme Home Makeover: http://www.facebook.com/ExtremeMakeoverHomeEdition (You can simply copy & paste this if you’d like: Please help Bella Tucker’s family in Londonderry, NH.)

If we get enough people, we will have a better chance of helping the family!

You can also go to the website that was set up to help Bella and her family and leave a message for Bella and a donation: www.bellatucker.org

Thanks to Sonya F. for sharing this information with me. I hope we can help your friends, the Tuckers!
