What is Metrocare?

Metrocare is a non-profit 501c3 organization serving Dallas County for over 40 years and formerly known as The Dallas County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center (MHMR). Metrocare is the largest provider of care for individuals living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and severe emotional problems in Dallas County.

Over 26,000 people turn to Metrocare for help every year. Treatment and recovery occur in clinics across Dallas, clients’ homes, schools, places of employment and even on the streets of Dallas. Many patients receive a combination of several services to meet their needs.

At the 4 adult mental health clinics and 3 children’s clinics, patients receive counseling, medication, group therapy and more. A coach, referred to as a service coordinator, helps the client organize their overwhelming situation into a manageable schedule.

Metrocare has programs to assist with employment, housing, and adjusting to the community after hospitalization. Children’s programs include a Center for Children with Autism, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) for infants and toddlers, Therapeutic Foster Care and much more.
