This past summer I took my kids on a road trip to Glen Rose, TX, just southwest of Fort Worth. We visited Dinosaur Valley State Park, went on a safari at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, and even had a pizza & movie night in our hotel room. As it turns out, WE MISSED THE BEST PART of Glen Rose, when you’re in the dinosaur-wonder age group… DINOSAUR WORLD!

Now I have no excuse not to take the family back! Here’s a deal for a family 4-pack of tickets to Dinosaur World for just $22 (regularly $45, 2 adults & 2 kids).  The tickets are good for a full year (through 10/22/2011), so why not get them now to use next summer?

** When you make your purchase, there’s a spot just below where you enter your credit card information. It asks for a Referral Code. Enter code 4A84C.

Expires: The tickets for Dinosaur World expire 10/22/2011, but the deal ends on 10/21/2010.

SOLD OUT: $3 tickets to Plano (Hot Air) Balloon Festival September 16, 2010

BalloonsUPDATE: I just checked the AdPages site (1:50pm CST 9/17/10) and the discounted tickets are sold out.

There is something just so incredible and serene about watching hot air balloons take flight. The woosh of the flame as it heats the air in the balloon, the sight of the balloons filling and taking shape, then watching them take their ascent upwards as they display their majesty in the sky. I wax poetic, but really, it is AWESOME!

THIS WEEKEND is the Plano Balloon Festival in Plano, TX, just north of Dallas. It is worth driving from near and far to attend, and is fun for all ages. We went a few years ago when my son was barely 2-years-old and he was stunned into silence! (And this is one chatty kiddo.)

Purchase advance tickets for just $3 each right now online! Tickets are regularly $5, and during 9am & 3pm they’re $4, but  the balloons take flight at 6pm Friday, 7am & 6pm Saturday, and 7am & 6pm Sunday, so that’s when you’ll want to attend. (Note that kiddos 36″ & under are free.) Note that you’ll need to create a login/pw for AdPages to purchase this deal, but it is free and quick.

There’s even live entertainment on Sat night after the balloon launch, balloon glow, and fireworks — don’t forget your camera!

Expires: The tickets are good for Fri, Sat, or Sun this weekend (9/17-19/10), but there are a limited number of discounted tickets available and they’re going FAST.

$10.50 Lands’ End backpack & FREE SHIPPING August 30, 2010

BackpackTwo things I love about Lands’ End — quality products and stellar customer service. I remember my dad always ordering his business shirts from this company, and I’ve owned countless backpacks and totes made by Lands’ End (one of them is 13 years old and still toting strong!).

Here’s a fabulous Lands’ End backpack for just $10.50 with FREE SHIPPING! This FeatherLight 100 backpack, available in this “true navy plaid” or a “golden khaki plaid,”  is geared for kids ages 5-8 (or folks who just need a smaller-sized backpack). Like so many of their products, you can have it monogrammed for just $5.  To score your FREE SHIPPING, enter code AUG30 and pin 2074 at checkout.

At this price, please consider ordering a few to donate to local shelters or foster programs. For example, Metrocare Services in Dallas would be thrilled to receive these for the children, teens, and adults they serve!

Expires: Unknown, but based on the code for the FREE SHIPPING, I’m betting that code expires today, Aug. 30, 2010.

Thanks, SlickDeals!

Save your life for under $20: Road ID August 16, 2010

Road IDI don’t know about you, but over the years I’ve managed to tuck my driver’s license into every sports bra I own in an effort to be safe when biking, running, and walking outdoors. Well, here’s an even better solution that just may save your life.

Road ID makes just that — ID that you can wear on your body while out on the road. Their products range from the Wrist ID Sport (pictured in this post), for just $19.99, to a band for your ankle, a pouch to put on your shoe, or even a simple ID that fits on your shoe laces. You can print up to 6 lines of text on the ID, and you can always order a replacement ID to fit on your strap if you ever move or need to change emergency contact info.

Right now, you can SAVE $1 OFF your order when you enter code TAF1238 at checkout. This brings the Wrist ID Sport, shipping and all, to just $20.48 (for an order shipping to Dallas).

If you know an athlete who doesn’t yet have one of these, I’d urge you to pass this deal along. I received the Wrist ID Sport as a Christmas gift from my in-laws, and it brings me great peace of mind. It even encourages me. The last line of text on my band says, “STRONG COURAGEOUS MOMMY.” If that doesn’t inspire you, I’m not sure what will!

Feel clueless as to what you’d put on your Road ID? Here’s what is on mine, to give you an idea:

  • MY NAME / YEAR OF BIRTH (Their site said having your year of birth is helpful for medical personnel.)
  • CITY, TX  USA (Just in case I am ever exercising on vacation – or in a sporting event – in another country.)
  • HOME 222-222-2222
  • HUSBAND 333-333-3333 (It literally just says “husband” instead of his name, and this is his cell number.)
  • SISTER 444-444-4444 (It literally just says “sister” instead of her name, and this is her cell number.)
  • STRONG, COURAGEOUS MOMMY (This helps me to keep going when I want to quit.)

Expires: Unknown

Thanks, RetailMeNot, for the code!

(This is a re-post from April. I thought it was worthy of a re-post after vacationing with athletic friends this past weekend and discovering they hadn’t yet heard of Road ID, an invaluable piece of safety gear in my mind!)

$1/lotion, $2/fragrance mist: Dark Kiss by Bath & Body Works August 10, 2010

Dark KissI heard on the DL yesterday that Bath & Body Works has a stunning new fragrance that is just making its debut — Dark Kiss. A friend of mine was shopping there yesterday and sent me an email right away! Their site describes Dark Kiss as  “a seductive blend of dark berries with a kiss of vanilla to unleash your most primal passions.” Ooh, la la! Seriously, though, she said this was great stuff!

Right now, Bath & Body Works has sample bottles of their Dark Kiss body lotion (2 oz.) on sale for just $1, and their Dark Kiss fragrance mist (1 oz.) on sale for just $2.  This deal is available in the store and on-line (though you’d have to pay shipping), and no coupon is needed.

Hmm… I’m wondering if B&BW is trying to bite into all the vampire hoopla in the movies, books, etc. (Yes, pun intended!)

Find a Bath & Body Works store near you.

Expires: Unknown

Thanks, Heather C.!

Save $ and get those kids crafty June 14, 2010

If there’s one thing I learned about traveling with kids this weekend (to a destination other than the grandparents’), it is to arrive prepared! My 2yo & 4.5yo made these foam visors yesterday morning as they were getting antsy, waiting for everyone to wake up.

Here are some coupons and deals to help get you prepared with easy, inexpensive crafts for kiddos you’re either traveling with or hosting:

50% OFF at JoAnn Fabric & Craft Stores – 50% off any one regular-priced item with code DFP170 (online; exp 6/19/2010)

50% OFF at Michaels – 50% off any one regular-priced item with printable coupon (Find a Michaels near you; exp 6/19/2010)

$2.95 shipping at Hobby Lobby for any order – no code needed! (online; exp 6/19/2010)

Not sure where to start for easy summer crafts? Hit the Vacation Bible School aisle or category for EASY crafts. They’re not all religiously-themed (the visors we made weren’t), and they’re designed for kids to make easily and quickly! The best part of these visors is that after the kids decorated them, they got to wear them too.

Expires: All of these deals expire 6/19/2010

Thanks to Buxr for the Michaels coupon!

$10 one-year subscription to National Geographic magazine June 3, 2010

I remember my dad subscribing to National Geographic when I was a child, and how much I loved those amazing vivid photos in there… and the pull-out maps and timelines… and, when I was older, reading the articles too. Yes, I’m a geek, but, admit it, this magazine intrigues you too!

Here’s a deal for a FULL YEAR of National Geographic for just $10 — SAVE $61.88 OFF THE COVER PRICE! I’ve never seen it this low. Hop on over to Amazon and put a one-year subscription (12 issues) in your shopping cart. When you check out, you’ll instantly save an additional $5 OFF the $15 sale price so that it is just $10 for a full year!

A subscription to National Geographic would make a great Father’s Day gift!

Expires: The instant $5 savings expires June 30, 2010.

Thanks, Carrie B. of Spencer, MA!

EXPIRED: $3 OFF per ticket at Dallas Zoo May 10, 2010

UPDATE: It turns out that neither the Dallas Zoo nor AdPages realized this coupon was still up on the web! Oops! It looks like we unintentionally found a loop hole. The coupon has been taken down as of 7/12/2010, but check out the $1 admission day on 7/15/2010!

What a deal! If you live in or near Dallas, or plan to visit this fabulous city before the end of September, PRINT THIS NOW.

I found a killer printable coupon for the Dallas Zoo! You’ll save $3 OFF any full-price admission with this coupon, up to 6 tickets per coupon! Coupons for the Dallas Zoo are pretty rare to find, so this one is worth printing now and sticking in your glove box.

Have you heard about their amazing new Giants of the Savanna habitat that opens Memorial Day weekend? My kids and I have had such a fun time watching this habitat being built, and we visited Gypsy and Jenny, the zoo’s elephants, in their old habitats for the last time last week. The elephants have moved to the new 11 acre habitat and joined the new elephants successfully! The giraffes are next to move, and then when the habitat opens, we’ll be able to FEED the giraffes! How cool will that be?!?

Expires: September 30, 2010
