Save your life for under $20: Road ID August 16, 2010

Road IDI don’t know about you, but over the years I’ve managed to tuck my driver’s license into every sports bra I own in an effort to be safe when biking, running, and walking outdoors. Well, here’s an even better solution that just may save your life.

Road ID makes just that — ID that you can wear on your body while out on the road. Their products range from the Wrist ID Sport (pictured in this post), for just $19.99, to a band for your ankle, a pouch to put on your shoe, or even a simple ID that fits on your shoe laces. You can print up to 6 lines of text on the ID, and you can always order a replacement ID to fit on your strap if you ever move or need to change emergency contact info.

Right now, you can SAVE $1 OFF your order when you enter code TAF1238 at checkout. This brings the Wrist ID Sport, shipping and all, to just $20.48 (for an order shipping to Dallas).

If you know an athlete who doesn’t yet have one of these, I’d urge you to pass this deal along. I received the Wrist ID Sport as a Christmas gift from my in-laws, and it brings me great peace of mind. It even encourages me. The last line of text on my band says, “STRONG COURAGEOUS MOMMY.” If that doesn’t inspire you, I’m not sure what will!

Feel clueless as to what you’d put on your Road ID? Here’s what is on mine, to give you an idea:

  • MY NAME / YEAR OF BIRTH (Their site said having your year of birth is helpful for medical personnel.)
  • CITY, TX  USA (Just in case I am ever exercising on vacation – or in a sporting event – in another country.)
  • HOME 222-222-2222
  • HUSBAND 333-333-3333 (It literally just says “husband” instead of his name, and this is his cell number.)
  • SISTER 444-444-4444 (It literally just says “sister” instead of her name, and this is her cell number.)
  • STRONG, COURAGEOUS MOMMY (This helps me to keep going when I want to quit.)

Expires: Unknown

Thanks, RetailMeNot, for the code!

(This is a re-post from April. I thought it was worthy of a re-post after vacationing with athletic friends this past weekend and discovering they hadn’t yet heard of Road ID, an invaluable piece of safety gear in my mind!)

FREE subscription to Working Mother magazine July 21, 2010

Working Mother MagazineI like the headline on the cover of this issue of Working Mother magazine — “Never feel GUILTY again!” The magazine’s tagline is “Balance Work and Family”. I don’t know any mom, whether she works outside of the house or not, who doesn’t at least sometimes struggle with that balance. Besides, I’m always up for trying new recipes (and, according to Tara of DealSeekingMom, this magazine has a bunch of them), so bring it on!

Get your FREE subscription to Working Mother magazine by clicking here. Yes, it is one of those sites that tries to get you to say “yes” to lots of other offers/discounts, but just keep clicking “no thanks” and “skip.” I just signed up for my FREE subscription in less than 2 minutes!

TODAY: $1 day at the Dallas Zoo! July 15, 2010

TODAY! Get your cooler, sunscreen, and big ‘ol floppy hat ready — and don’t forget the camera too! TODAY THURSDAY, July 15, 2010, is $1 admission day at the Dallas Zoo!

My advice is to get there as the gates open. Arrive at 8am sharp to avoid a parking and traffic zoo (no pun intended) or make it an adventure by taking the DART Red Line. Wear the comfiest shoes you have, and pack the kids’ bathing suits, water shoes, water hats, and towels because you’ll want to take them to the “brook” in the Lacerte Children’s Zoo for a splashing good time!

Per their press release, “Dollar deals will be available at the Zoo throughout the day, including $1 food items such as hot dogs, chips, popcorn, and snow cones on Cat Green and $1 frozen treats near the exit. The Zoofari Market will have great deals on drinks and snacks and big bargains on souvenir items.”

Though the air-conditioned cafe in the middle of the zoo has tasty treats, I recommend packing your own lunch so you can munch on healthy fare as you go (carrots make an easy snack!). Bring your water bottles and refill them at the water fountains! The zoo is very wagon- and stroller-friendly, so that’s an easy way to haul your stuff! Oh, and did I mention to bring sunscreen? Just don’t forget to reapply it. They sell it in the gift shop if you happen to forget.

Want an even better experience? Download their FREE iPhone Dallas Zoo app! This should make navigating your visit at the zoo even easier.

The $1 admission is an amazing deal! If you plan to return a few more times in the next year, I urge you to consider a Dallas Zoo membership. You’ll get free parking (a $7 value per visit), free admission, gift shop discounts, and tons of other perks depending on the membership you choose. Dallas Zoo memberships make FABULOUS gifts! That’s how we got our first membership to the Dallas Zoo — my parents gave it to us as a Christmas gift. And it is the best kind of gift — no need to dust it, clean it up, or exchange it for a different size!

Find the Dallas Zoo!

Good only TODAY, Thursday, July 15, 2010. No coupon needed!

SOLD OUT – $9.99 & FREE shipping – 4ft x 4ft Raised Garden Bed July 14, 2010

UPDATE: Wow! That went fast. As of this morning, Home Depot was still accepting orders but they’ve since stopped (as of 1:30pm CST 7/14/10). Sorry, all! Great deals go fast… Thanks to Wendy for letting me know!

In my backyard I have a garden with two wonderful raised beds. I love being able to just dash out the backdoor, mid-recipe, and pick my own herbs! This year we added lemon thyme to the mix. Our raised beds were lovingly made by my husband and son, and it took quite a bit of time and planning. SAVE YOURSELF the headache! Here is a sweet deal for raised garden bed structures that I’ve seen with my own eyes (my neighbors have them) — and they’re AWESOME!

Regularly $29.99, Home Depot has their 4ft x 4ft Raised Garden Beds on sale for just $9.99 with FREE SHIPPING! Sure, they’re on back order at the moment, but place your order and get in line. These are sturdy, visually appealing, and EASY to use.

So, what are you going to grow? Tomatoes? Fall lettuce? Flowers? Herbs? Melons! Here’s a tip: If you’re not able to get outside to water your garden regularly, or if you’re someone who is likely to forget, run a hose to your raised bed and attach a soaker hose. Plug in an easy hose timer and you’re all set!

Expires: August 31, 2010

Thanks, SlickDeals!

$1.99 & FREE shipping for TWO custom handbag hangers July 13, 2010

Ok, so what’s a handbag hanger and why do I need one? Well, when you go out to dine, where does your handbag go? The back of your chair so that you can be pick-pocketed? Your lap so you can drop food on it? The floor so you can bring home who-knows-how-many icky germs?

Here’s the solution! You need a handbag hanger! ArtsCow’s “great bag hanger provides an easy way to hang your purse or handbag. The hanger folds into a disc shape and are the perfect size for carrying in your purse. Customize with your own personalized [photo or] logo (1 1/4″ in diameter), with enamel coating for long time protection.”

Normally $6.99 each plus shipping, use code HANGHOOK to get TWO for a total of $1.99 with FREE shipping!

Some ideas… Use photos of your kids to make gifts for their grandmothers! Use your company logo or a friend’s company’s logo for extremely inexpensive give-aways or gifts! Use a photo of your pet so Fluffy or Fido is always with you! Perhaps a photo of the sunset from your latest vacation to whisk you away to paradise!

Expires: July 16, 2010 or whenever the stock is depleted – whichever happens first
