GREAT holiday gift for under $20: Road ID December 4, 2010

Thanksgiving morning I went for a short run in the neighborhood we were visiting. The sun had just come up, there was a nice cool breeze, and I was feeling strong. About 1.5 miles into my run, the tip of my running shoe hit an uneven patch on the sidewalk and I went flying — without my superhero cape — and crashed onto the concrete. My knee landed first, before my now-scraped hands could break my fall. Thankfully I had my cell phone with me to call my husband to come rescue me (there was no way my broken kneecap could have survived a crawl back to my in-laws’), but I can’t get out of my mind what might have happened had my head landed first.

Fortunately, I was wearing my Road ID wrist band with my name and emergency phone numbers on it (by now you know I’m Safety Girl). If I had been knocked out, my Road ID would have been an incredible help to the emergency personnel.

Road ID is something that I urge everyone to wear when doing anything outdoors — running, walking, biking, hiking, snowshoeing, etc. Their products range from the Wrist ID Sport (pictured in this post), for just $19.99, to a band for your ankle, a pouch to put on your shoe, or even a simple ID that fits on your shoe laces, and they come in a variety of colors. You can print up to 6 lines of text on the ID, and you can always order a replacement ID to fit on your strap if you ever move or need to change emergency contact info.

Right now, you can SAVE 10% OFF “all Road ID gear, including gift cards,” when you enter code PCFB10 at checkout. This brings the Wrist ID Sport, shipping and all, to just $19.48 (for an order shipping to Dallas). This is a GREAT holiday gift! (Order by 5pm EST December 14 for Christmas.)

If you know someone who doesn’t yet have one of these, I’d urge you to pass this deal along. I received the Wrist ID Sport as a Christmas gift from my in-laws last year, and it brings me great peace of mind. It even encourages me. The last line of text on my band says, “STRONG COURAGEOUS MOMMY.” If that doesn’t inspire you, I’m not sure what will!

Feel clueless as to what you’d put on your Road ID? Here’s what is on mine, to give you an idea:

  • MY NAME / YEAR OF BIRTH (Their site said having your year of birth is helpful for medical personnel.)
  • CITY, TX  USA (Just in case I am ever exercising on vacation – or in a sporting event – in another country.)
  • HOME 222-222-2222
  • HUSBAND 333-333-3333 (It literally just says “husband” instead of his name, and this is his cell number.)
  • SISTER 444-444-4444 (It literally just says “sister” instead of her name, and this is her cell number.)
  • STRONG, COURAGEOUS MOMMY (This helps me to keep going when I want to quit.)

Expires:  Their Facebook page just says that the code is good “through the holiday season,” so maybe it expires 12/31/2010?

Thanks, Road ID, for the code!

3 FREE Custom Photo Cards August 31, 2010

photo cardThere’s nothing like getting a personalized greeting card in the mail. Someone took the time to pick out a card for you, sign it (maybe even write a note in there!), address it, stamp it, and mail it — so much more effort than a simple email! Here’s a way to make THREE FREE custom photo cards in under 5 minutes (plus about $2.97 shipping & tax). That’s less time and cost than it takes to zip to the grocery store!

Just hop on over to Shutterfly to upload your photo(s) and create your cards. Enter code SUMMERCARDS at checkout to score this deal. Their cards are normally about $2.99 each, so you’ll save about $9 with this code!

You can make one card and print three of it (the fastest way to go; you’ll need to save 3 versions of the card — just rename it — then add them to your shopping cart) or mix and match three different cards. Think about upcoming birthdays. Who do you have embarrassing photos of? Or perhaps thank you cards for upcoming holidays.  I love making “thinking of you” or blank cards to have custom photo note cards to use for any occasion!

One more thing! GRANDPARENTS DAY is September 12th! Make cards (go to “Everyday Occasions” and choose from their designs) for those deserving grandparents!

Expires: Hurry! This expires TOMORROW, September 1, 2010.

Thanks, “Cents”able Momma!

$10.50 Lands’ End backpack & FREE SHIPPING August 30, 2010

BackpackTwo things I love about Lands’ End — quality products and stellar customer service. I remember my dad always ordering his business shirts from this company, and I’ve owned countless backpacks and totes made by Lands’ End (one of them is 13 years old and still toting strong!).

Here’s a fabulous Lands’ End backpack for just $10.50 with FREE SHIPPING! This FeatherLight 100 backpack, available in this “true navy plaid” or a “golden khaki plaid,”  is geared for kids ages 5-8 (or folks who just need a smaller-sized backpack). Like so many of their products, you can have it monogrammed for just $5.  To score your FREE SHIPPING, enter code AUG30 and pin 2074 at checkout.

At this price, please consider ordering a few to donate to local shelters or foster programs. For example, Metrocare Services in Dallas would be thrilled to receive these for the children, teens, and adults they serve!

Expires: Unknown, but based on the code for the FREE SHIPPING, I’m betting that code expires today, Aug. 30, 2010.

Thanks, SlickDeals!

$8.99 Magic Photo Cube (w/ FREE shipping!) August 9, 2010

magic photo cubeBack in my days of being a systems analyst, this was my FAVORITE desk-topping freebie that I received from one of our vendors… A magic cube! Seriously, this toy provided endless hours of fun when I’d need to walk someone through a long process on the phone. Of course, the magic cube that I had was plastered with the vendor’s logo, but I saw this custom magic photo cube and am jumping at the chance to order one with our family’s photos on it!

Regularly $14.99, you can design your own magic photo cube using 6 small and 3 large photos of your choosing (or pop your company’s logo on there if you so desire!) for just $8.99 and FREE shipping! Use code MAGICCUBE at checkout to snag this deal. (As a head’s up, the email I received from ArtsCow said I’d need to use Microsoft Silverlight software to design the cube, but when I log in to create my cube, it doesn’t look like any special software is needed.)

Here are some ideas for how to use this custom photo gift… Choose baby photos for that new mom or dad to take back to the office. Summer vacation photos. A recent birthday party — or one held years ago. A wedding-themed cube, perfect for a wedding gift or upcoming anniversary gift. A pet-themed cube. Really, anything!

This magic cube may be too delicate for the 5 & under crowd, but it is sure to be a big hit with the 6 & up folks!
