Being Resourceful

A Savvy Shopper's Guide to Bargains, Deals, & Freebies

$18.97 Nap Mat with FREE personalization (includes shipping!) May 31, 2010

We’re getting ready for summer travel to friends’ homes and suddenly my 2yo is sleeping in a “big girl” bed… Eeeek! That means no more easy travel with the pack & play (playpen for us “old school” folks). Time to get a nap mat! They’re easy to wash, easy to carry, and perfect for toddlers or little ones when traveling.

Here’s a great deal on reversible nap mats from Lillian Vernon for just $14.98 including FREE personalization (regularly 19.98)! When you use code 410840100 at checkout TODAY, shipping will be a flat rate $3.99, making your personalized nap mat plus shipping just $18.97! That’s an incredible deal!

I like this one in particular because it doesn’t have an attached blanket, making it much less bulky than those with a blanket. Space is a priority when we’re packing the back of the car for road trips! (Plus, she prefers her pink monogrammed blanket from her Nana anyhow!)

Expires: Flat-rate shipping code expires today (5/31/10), and the sale on the nap mats has an unknown expiration

Thanks, RetailMeNot for the shipping code!

33% OFF at Borders/Waldenbooks = BOB Books for $11.38 May 27, 2010

Summer is here! Time to swim, play, splash, and READ! So, my 4.5-year-old came home from preschool last week and announced he wanted to learn how to read. Hallelujah! Based on recommendations from friends who are teachers (and parents), I investigated the BOB Books. My first stop? Amazon, of course. They were $11.38 for a set there.  But I needed them RIGHT AWAY. The solution? This deal!

Here’s a printable coupon for 33% OFF the list price of one item at Borders or Waldenbooks! For this must-have beginning readers book set, it brought the original price of $16.99 down to $11.38 — matching Amazon’s price and allowing my soon-to-be-reader to have them NOW!

Chances are, if you’re reading this post, you’re already beyond the BOB Books yourself… So use this deal for something for you! If you’d rather shop online, use code BGA7757M. (Just FYI, you’ll need to be a Borders Rewards member for this deal, but that’s free & easy to set up if you’re not one already.)

Find a Borders or Waldenbooks near you.

And, I’m excited to report he’s already read books 1 & 2 in set 1 of the BOB Books. This is awesome!

Extreme Makeover Home Edition! May 21, 2010

Ok, folks. Normally I post sweet deals to save you dough and spread the word about great products and places. Today’s post takes a different twist on resourcefulness — and it will make you feel good for FREE.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could work together to help a family get an Extreme Makeover of their Home — for FREE?!?! Now, THAT would be resourceful!

I know some of you know about Bella Tucker, but for those of you who do not, she is an 8-year-old that goes to my friend’s daughter’s school. She went into a coma over Easter due to a serious bacterial infection and was not expected to survive. Miraculously she did survive but with extensive tissue damage and had to have both arms and legs amputated. The community of Londonderry, NH has been rallying to help her family and the latest effort is to get the show Extreme Makeover Home Edition to help out with modifying Bella’s home. Her family does not have the funds to do this on their own, and while the community is trying to raise money, it simply will not cover the costs.  (For example, a wheelchair lift alone is $30,000.)  And there are 4 other kids in the household, so you can only imagine how overwhelmed the family must be!

I am asking everyone a favor… Please go to the Extreme Makeover facebook page and leave a comment (you’ll have to “like” them in order to leave a comment, but then you can “unlike” the page) to nominate Bella Tucker’s family for an Extreme Home Makeover: http://www.facebook.com/ExtremeMakeoverHomeEdition (You can simply copy & paste this if you’d like: Please help Bella Tucker’s family in Londonderry, NH.)

If we get enough people, we will have a better chance of helping the family!

You can also go to the website that was set up to help Bella and her family and leave a message for Bella and a donation: www.bellatucker.org

Thanks to Sonya F. for sharing this information with me. I hope we can help your friends, the Tuckers!
